“Most Elite Athletes Engage In Some Form Of Self-Hypnotic Techniques. In the world of sport, the application of hypnosis is insidiously present but rarely discussed. In my clinical experience, most elite athletes engage in some form of self-hypnotic techniques…. Whether the clinician actively hypnotizes the client or teaches the client self-hypnotic techniques, the resulting trance state often enhances the athlete’s sense of mastery, independence, and confidence – all of which are fundamental goals of the practicing sports psychologist or psychiatrist

The desire to be successful and perform at your best is within the hearts of most people.  In the world of sports, those who "go pro" are those who are able to consistently perform at their peak potential.  Whether you are seeking success in sports or business, you realize that the higher you move towards being a top performer, the more your mind influences your success, positively or negatively.

Hypnosis, mental imagery, and other right brain tools teach you how to use more of your mind so you can get the mental edge you need to succeed.   Dr. Charles Garfield has done extensive research on peak performers, both in athletics and in business. He became fascinated with peak performance in his work with the NASA program, watching the astronauts rehearse everything on earth, again and again in a simulated environment before they went to space. He decided to study the characteristics of peak performers.

One of the main things his research showed was that almost all of the world-class athletes and other peak performers are visualizers. They see it; they feel it; they experience it before they actually do it. They begin with the end in mind. Hypnosis can help you intensify and accelerate your ability to visualize to effectively enhance your performance in sports.

As a professional athlete, I didn’t know what to expect from hypnosis. In the past, I would have laughed it off. After giving it some thought, I decided to give it a try. Wow was I impressed! After about three weeks or so it all started to click. I have never felt so clear in my mind. I’m at peace, I do what I want and it’s great. It’s amazing finally getting to see how I’ve always envisioned myself doing. It’s only the start to a very successful path!

As an athlete, I need any competitive edge I can get over my competition. For years I had worked on my physical self, making myself as strong, fast, and skillful as possible to be the best that I could be on the field. I would prepare myself for hours a week getting ready for competition but when I got into the game, my mind left me. I couldn’t focus. Things I was doing in practice were not translating into the game state. I had a mental block and it seemed like my fear of failure was not allowing me to relax on the field and just play the game I enjoy. I had a goal of playing in college and I worried that this block would stop my abilities. Then I met Rebecca Shaw. Within two sessions I was already seeing an improvement in my abilities on the field. I believe that anybody can benefit from Mrs. Shaw in any aspect of life. She helped me relax on the field and pull out the best version of myself. I am now going to play college baseball and had an excellent summer season all thanks to Mrs. Shaw.

HYPNOSIS WORKS FOR YOUNG ATHLETES AS WELL!

I have worked with many children for sports such as gymnastics, cheering, golf, baseball, basketball, and soccer to address fears and self-confidence as well as to improve mental rehearsal imagery.

One local young high school student named Jake won his first golf tournament after just one of my sports hypnosis sessions.  Yep, that's his scorecard to the right!
